Sally's pups are now 5 weeks old...

We named Sally's pups after the six great provinces (states) of Madagascar: Antananarivo, Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Mahajanga, Toamasina and Toliara. These full names are certainly too difficult to employ, so we used shortened versions that retain the pleasingly, regal Malagasy nature of the pups. |

The first pup born, Male Number 1, is named for the central province of Madagascar where the capital city of Antananarivo is located. This is a happening place, with its Casablanca-like cafes, international airport, train station and the world's largest open market. We call him RIVO...

The second puppy born is named after the exotic Northwestern Province of Mahajanga. Here, seasonal monsoons flood the parched land. The port city there was the site of the fearsome Malagasy native pirates two centuries ago. I studied lemurs in the forest near the port city of Majunga. This great little guy's name is HAJA...  |

The third puppy born, the TALL Black & White female derives her name from the Province of Toliara -- the very place where Tulear is located. I studied lemurs in an extremely dry forest near the forsaken town of Ejeda here; the temperature exceeded 120 degrees. But this little girl is waaaaay cool. Her name is LIARA...
