Sally & Rossy's April 2007 Litter:

Portraits of the Pups at 6 weeks old (June 5th)

Sally's brave little Tri-color male pup Number Three, below, is now known to us as "Mangabe of Alika Cotons," GABE for short! The Mangabe Reserve is actually an island (Nosy) and is pronounced "New-SHE-mahn-gah-BAY") . It is a verdant rainforest in the famous Bay of Pirates in Northeast Madagascar. I explored the Malagasy island of Saint Marie near here in search of lemurs and the graves of forgotten pirates in 1973. And yes, Gabe is a rakish little pirate of Cotons, as you can see from his sixth week portrait below...

Sally's elegant Black & White male puppy Number 4 (below) we call "KOBE." He was named in honor of Lokobe, a reserve on the Northwestern Island of Nosy Be, famous for its revered Black lemurs. How appropriate is that for a Black & White Malagasy Coton de Tulear's name?

Sally's 5th puppy, a female, is a beautiful Tri-color, below. She has been named in honor of the Anakarana Reserve, a marvellous monsoonal seasonal forest that is characterized by steep limestone cliffs (called tsingy Formation, geologically) that resemble razors reaching high in the sky. It is in the north central region of Madagascar. It contains endangered lemurs (colored with fur much like hers) as well as cave dwelling crocodiles that may reach over twenty feet in length. So we proudly present below Anakarana of Alika Cotons -- known to us as exotic "KARANA," pronounced "KAH-ron-ah."
