Jane Pawsten

Jane Austen (1775-1817) was a famous English author of such well-known works as "Sense and Sensibility," "Pride and Prejuduce," and "Emma." Austen was a young spinster emersed quietly (unremarkably) in country village life. She was a master of subtle satire and sharp social commentary -- characteristics much admired by female readers trapped in a paternalistic society then and now. Mark Twain, one of my [RJR] favorite satirists, didn't much care for Jane. Twain wrote: "Every time I read "Pride and Prejudice" I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone." My guess is Mark wouldn't appreciate Sandra Bullock in a romantic comedy movie either. It's a girl thing, Mark!

Everyone, of course, can appreciate our own Jane Pawsten -- "Janie" for short. She's quite the beautiful Tri-color, quite remarkable and very contemporary, in an inimitable, Malagasy sorta way...
