The eye examination checks for potential childhood eye
problems and makes note of the stage of eye development. For
example all pups of all breeds are born with blue eyes
(iris) that over the first few weeks change to their adult
coloration. D'Gary's eyes above show three colors:
blue (which has almost disappeared), tan, and the very dark
brown (last to develop, it can be seen around the pupil).
Puppy eyes are cloudy with a bluish cast to them--a
reflection of the growth of the lens (which grows in layer
by layer). It follows that the puppy's visual acuity
develops step-by-step. Interestingly, all four of these pups
really enjoy watching television at a distance of more than
10 feet away -- a visual feat that not all adult dogs of any
breed can do (note: US standard television is at a lower
resolution than TVs in the rest of the world, hence most
dogs have problems seeing it)!
Below, D'Gary has his heart and lungs checked.
